The Wedding

The wedding brought together the progeny of Egyptians of South Africans- Jews from both ends of the Motherland. The band played a mix of Greek and Israeli love ballads, r&b, and a South African song. I sat next to a PoliSci PhD student, an Indian who grew up in Northern Ireland. He was with his fiancee, a lawyer in a sari. To me left was a Kavkazi Jew from Azerbaijan, and her Israeli boyfriend.
At Finch Station, I asked to buy ten tokens. "You've come to the right place," the man beyond the counter told me. On the train, two Mexican girls sat next to me, and we watched a man make balloon animals. He struggled with an octopus for a while, and then presented an orange teddy bear to a woman seated nearby.
